I am broadly interested in the ecology and evolution of microorganisms: How have they become so diverse and successful? What enables them to form complex communities with each other, and with multicellular eukaryotes? How can we learn and benefit from their tremendous evolutionary innovations?
I use a multitude of approaches to investigate these questions, from classical culture-based methodologies to high-throughput genomics and in-vivo animal models.
